Dr. Sanjay R. Dhakate, obtained his M. Sc. (Physics) in first division from RTM Nagpur University, Nagpur in 1991, Ph. D. in 2002 from Department of Physics and Astrophysics, Delhi University. Delhi, thesis entitled, “Effect of surface functional group on the physic-mechanical properties of carbon-carbon composites”. He joined CSIR-NPL as scientist B in 1992 in Carbon Technology Unit. Currently he is Senior Principal Scientist and Head, Advanced Carbon Products group in NPL. Also Professor of AcSIR. He has successfully completed CSIR Leadership Development Program.

He is working on various forms of carbon materials for structural, energy and environmental applications such as Carbon fibers, Carbon and polymer foams, Carbon-carbon composites, Ceramic-carbon composite, Electrospun polymer and carbon nanofibers, Graphene, graphene oxide based composites, Polymer nanocomposites, carbon fiber paper as electrode material and graphite composites bipolar plates for polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell, Carbon fiber paper based Infra red heater, New generation carbon nanotubes based for personal body amour materials, activated carbon from waste biomass, value added products from coal tar etc. He is handing various R&D project sponsored by CSIR, DST, BARC and Industries as well as International bilateral project. He published so for more than 110 research papers in various International repute journals, more than 110 conference paper and seven patents in his credit. He has delivered several invited talks in various reputed institutes for popularizing the carbon science and technology. He is also reviewer of different International Journals. He is also co-authors of two books and author of three book chapters.

He is receipt of Advanced Material Letters Scientist award 2011, is received during International conference on Advanced Materials, Jinan, China. He is the receipt of JICA fellowship, prestigious JSPS fellowship, JSPS Bridge fellowship of Japan Government and worked in Osaka National Research Institute, National Aerospace Laboratory (JAXA) and The University of Tokyo for more than Two years time. He is also a visiting fellow to Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, Australia. He is supervising M. Tech and Ph.D. students in the area of material science.
