A Short Biography ; Received B.Sc. (Engg.) Mechanical & M.E. (Mechanical Engg.) from Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi and Delhi College of Engg. In year 1981 & 1996 respectively. He joined CSIR- National Physical Laboratory in year 983.Presently he is Chief Scientist and Head of Mass Standards. He is also Quality manager of CSIR-NPL.

Anil Kumar's research interests were in the parameters- Force, Hardness and Torque in early years of services. Many new facilities were developed in his tenure. Many challenging tasks like stain gauging of railway engine for Indian Railways , strain measurement in wind shaft for Suzlon, fabrication of different machines like primary dead force machine & torque machine for Department of Legal Metrology (Ministry of Consumer Affairs) etc.

He was assigned responsibility of Mass Standards in year 2010. Many new projects are undertaken under his head ship. Vacuum mass comparator 9 (capacity 1 kg) is in process of establishment. Watt- Balance (under MIST project) project for changing definition of Kilogram Is progressing well under his leadership.

He is coordinator for Mass for NPL- PTB- SAARC project. He is a principal member of BIS Weight & Measure committee. He is fellow of Metrology Society of India.
