11. Research highlights:

  • Currently, we are engaged in a project entitled Thermoelectric SOLAR under Technologies And Products for Solar energy Utilization through Networking project. The prime benefit of this project is to provide the availability of clean energy by scavenging waste-heat from different sources, (like, industrial installations, home heating, automotive exhaust, and industrial processes) to produce electricity using thermoelectric devices.
  • As a part of this project, we have successfully synthesized both p & n-type nanostructured Si 80 Ge 20 alloys employing a methodology consisting of high energy ball milling followed by spark plasma sintering. For n-type and p-type Si 80 Ge 20 nanostructured alloys, we have been successful in achieving a ZT of about ~1.5 and ~1.2 at 900°C, respectively. These values are better than the values reported in literature by eminent groups in the area of thermoelectrics worldwide.
  • Further, employing nanocomposite approach, we have been successful in achieving a ZT of about ~1.7 at 900°C for 3wt.% SiC nano-particulates reinforced with n-type SiGe alloys. Repeatability studies are underway.
