Climate change has become a serious concern all over the world and to mitigate its catastrophic impacts on the earth’s livelihood, intergovernmental panel on climate change (IPCC) has recommended the global green house emission to be declined to net zero by 2050. Therefore more and more countries are aiming to contribute to the net-zero target via developing the processes and technologies to manage, store and remove the greenhouse gases from the environment. Most contribution to greenhouse gases emission comes from the energy sector and for net-zero target this sector urgently requires to reduce the greenhouse emission at an unprecedented rate without compromising with energy supply or increasing the energy price. Therefore energy sector needs evolution of advanced materials and technologies from generation to storage and utilization. Technologies for carbon capture and storage would also play a crucial role to achieve the net zero target. There is wide range of technologies which are being developed globally using advanced materials and processes for net zero emission but still there are many gaps and challenges which are keeping them from their full potential. In view of this an International workshop is being organized on the advanced materials and challenges for the technologies contributing to net zero emission. This workshop aims to bring the national and international experts and researchers together on the same platform to discuss about the materials and technologies being developed globally to achieve the net zero target and the challenges therein. This workshop will help us to find and fill the gaps together in different materials and technologies and contribute more efficiently to the net zero target. This workshop will also help to accelerate the development of best practice and standardisation in net zero technologies. The outcome of the workshop will be published as a VAMAS perspective report on materials, challenges and standardisation requirements for net zero technologies.
